FOUND in Dorking: predominantly brown, four legs, short-haired, red covering and beery smell. Answers to name Bar Stool.
Yet mystery surrounds this traditional pub seat, which was rescued from the middle of the road by West Street resident Georgina Hunt, as she made her way home from a night out.
Playing the role of the responsible citizen, the 32-year-old has called nearby pubs in an attempt to reunite it with its owner, only to find no-one was missing such an item.
Miss Hunt told the Advertiser: "It was left opposite my flat door and I moved it in to a courtyard area we've got.
"I've tried to rehouse it, but I lost interest after I'd rung six pubs so it's still sat in my flat.
"By a process of elimination I know it's not from The Bull's Head, The King's Arms, The Star, The Old House, The Spotted Dog or The Cricketers."
The Kuoni customer service worker described the seat as a tall, wooden bar stool, with red velvet upholstery and brass footrests, adding: "It's slightly worn, but with no buttock compressions to speak of – I don't think it's been too overused."
She is now keen to return the item of furniture to its rightful owner and get it out of the way.
"I think it was just stolen," she said. "People tend to pick things up all the time when they're drunk – things like Christmas trees and pint glasses – so I suspect someone did a runner with it, thinking it was funny, and couldn't be bothered to take it all the way up the High Street. They must have carried it a long way.
"If no-one comes forward I'll have to make an effort to start going round the pubs and having a token drink to see what their stoolware is like so I can reunite it."
