Having been in the business for some 50 years, it seems only fitting that the great Valentino Garavani's work is set to be celebrated in an exhibition that will be open for over three months, in a city that is world renowned for having its finger on the fashion pulse.
Somerset House, located in the heart of London, will play host to the designer's life work. Somerset House is steeped in history, and will be the perfect space for designs that each have their own stories to tell, but also possess authority and grandeur. Once occupied by members of the aristocracy, Somerset House is now a place for creative exchange. The neoclassical building is constantly kept in use by open-air concerts, film screenings, art exhibitions, and workshops. Valentino's designs will certainly be in excellent company.
The exhibition, which is entitled Valentino: Master of Couture and is set to open on 29th November and close on 3rd March, will showcase over 130 of Valentino's dresses. The collection includes designs worn by Grace Kelly, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Sophia Loren but the exhibition is not just a unique opportunity to see the gowns in greater detail than the public will have ever had the chance to do so before. It has other special elements to it as well, as visitors to the exhibition can expect to see photography and other items contributed from the designer's personal collection.
The exhibition itself seems set to provide spectacle in every way possible, as the curators will be transforming Somerset House's Embankment Galleries into a 60-metre catwalk along which visitors can stroll. It sounds ideal for any of those who dream (or perhaps dreamed) of a career in the modelling world, or perhaps who just wish they could bag a front row seat during Fashion Week!
Although Valentino retired in the January of 2008, the Valentino brand is still going strong. The Red Valentino collection is a particular favourite of The Editeur, a designer clothing boutique that's located in the heart of Chester who also sell brands such as MW Matthew Williamson. Valentino has many distinctive Valentino traits running throughout it, but is generally considered to be an altogether more playful and contemporary collection of womenswear. The Editeur are looking forward to seeing what the public make of the exhibition at Somerset House, and will be more than happy to help any of those who seek a special Red Valentino number themselves.
