REDHILL boss Mike Maher says his side would have gone on to win their game against Selsey on Saturday if they had equalised against the visitors.
Having started brightly, Maher's side found themselves a goal down in the first period, but also had a number of penalty appeals turned down by the referee. They eventually lost 3-0.
"We dominated the game in the first 30 minutes," he said.
"We had four penalty shouts, two of which were stonewall decisions, and it's frustrating when you're not scoring goals, you need the rub of the green getting a penalty awarded.
"They counter-attacked us and with the first shot they had, they scored. We then went back at them but just couldn't get the ball in the back of the net.
"In the second half, we pushed forward by playing three at the back but they scored two more goals when we were surging forward trying to get an equaliser.
"I felt if we had scored that, we would have gone on to win the game."
Maher believes the scoreline was flattering for Selsey and says his team put in a good performance.
But it's finding their goalscoring touch that is letting the Lobsters down at the moment.
"It's not lack of confidence, it's just a lack of belief in front of goal," he said.
"We're retaining possession, we're not panicking or lumping the ball forward.
"We've got loads of possession but we just can't score – that's got to change drastically. We're creating chances but we need to put them away.
"All the teams around us apart from Hassocks lost, but Hassocks have played a number of games more than us.
"The way we're playing, we're not being battered by teams, and on a normal 3-0 defeat you would come away thinking you've got to change a lot, but not on that performance."
On Saturday, Redhill face Horsham YMCA, who are the league's top scorers so far this season despite their mid-table position.
And Maher is hoping to take all three points against the side he believes are gearing towards a promotion bid with the players they have recruited.
"They've got some good players there and they've obviously recruited very well," he said.
"They're scoring a lot of goals as well, so we'll be aware that they're a good side and they've built a squad based on the fact they want to go for promotion, so it will be tough nut to crack.
"However, we're in the best position the club's been in for years and if we can win the next three games, we're going to be back up there near the top."
