It's all change at the Redhill Golf Centre – and the centre's staff hope the new innovations will bring a new sporting interest to those who thought golf was out of their sphere.
Not only has the centre recently come under new management and had a new look, with new balls, carpets, mats and refurbishment, but it also boasts a new teaching academy that is open to everyone.
"It's really exciting," says golf professional Steve Furlonger, who is in charge of the academy. "We have achieved funding for free golf tuition sessions."
The centre offers free beginners' lessons, called "Get into Golf" with funding from Surrey County Golf Partnership and England Golf, the golf-specialist arm of Sport England, the national governing body of sport.
These authorities also finance golf coaching for disabled residents of the borough – the course, called "Feel Inspired" operates in conjunction with Colebrook House and Mencap . "It's popular and more sessions are planned," says Steve.
There is also free golf tuition for juniors available, funded by the Golf Foundation charity.
"The aim is to get as many people interested in golf as possible by offering free lessons," explains Steve. "We want everyone to have the opportunity to learn and play golf - and get rid of its exclusive image.
"As well as free lessons, we hope to attract people with our friendly approach and relaxed environment: we have no strict dress codes, and it's pay and play at the Centre, so there are no membership or joining fees.
"You don't need a handicap or even to know anything about golf to begin – and we hire equipment, and sell it from our small golf-shop, which has a good range of items at a low cost, perfect for beginners."
The Redhill Golf Centre, which boasts a floodlit driving range and 9-hole course is open till 9pm daily. More "Get Into Golf" sessions are available from June until October 2013.
