WORK began this week on a major new development in Ripley, Surrey that will provide 37 affordable new homes,by the end of 2014.
.A total of 45 new homes, 37 of them affordable, are set to be completed by December 2014, with 10 prioritised for people with a connection with the village.
Demolition of the existing buildings at the White Hart Court development site in Ripley started this week.
A2Dominion Group, the construction company who will complete the project, had written to residents near the site,to let them know that work was starting.
Councillor Sarah Creedy, Lead Member for Housing and Social Welfare at Guildford Borough Council said: "We recognise that new affordable homes are vital for the future of our local communities.
"We have been talking to residents and the parish council in Ripley about the site for some time and it is great to see the work starting.
"All planning requirements have now been approved and demolition of the existing buildings will bring these 45 new homes and new public car park a step closer."
A new 60 space public car park, replacing the existing temporary parking spaces. will be finished by the end of September this year.
Steve Coggins, Regional Development Director South for A2Dominion, said "We have experienced a number of issues delaying building works which have now been addressed, and are pleased that demolition works have now begun.
"We are committed to delivering the completed scheme which will meet a range of crucial local housing needs, by the end of 2014."
