AN "UNSPORTY" Dorking woman has raised £3,500 for a children's charity by running her first marathon.

Pippa Gilchrist, 27, ran in the London Marathon on behalf of Barnardo's after being inspired by competitors in the 2012 race.

The former pupil of St Teresa's School in Effingham, who works as a consultant relations manager for a city asset management company, said: "After a long summer of training and gradually building up stamina, I completed my first half marathon in October.

"Two more half marathons followed in February and March (with a PB of 2hrs 27mins in Paris), before the London marathon."

Miss Gilchrist declared herself "thrilled" to finish in 5hrs 50mins.

Her mother Angela Gilchrist, of Westhumble, added: "As chairman of Dorking Barnardo's Helper Group for over 20 years I have organised numerous fundraising events, so it was a particular delight to me that my daughter should choose to fundraise on behalf of this excellent charity."

The charity works to help more than 200,000 vulnerable children, young people and their families in the UK every year.
