A MOTHER of four has spoken of her horror after a pervert indecently exposed himself just yards from where her three-year-old daughter was playing.

The sex pest is being hunted by police after the incident at Stafford Road Recreation Ground in Caterham.

The little girl was playing on the swings at about 1pm on April 30.

Her mother-in-law saw the man, standing about 50 yards away on a slope to the park, pleasuring himself while looking towards them.

The perpetrator ran off along Stafford Road when he realised the woman had spotted him.

The child's mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the Mirror how her mother rang her "in floods of tears" afterwards.

She said: "It's disgusting.

"I felt sick when I thought of my daughter.

"I don't feel safe letting my children out when I know there's a pervert on the loose.

"Its hard to imagine such a thing could happen in a built-up area like this and beside a popular playground.

"Me, my partner and his father immediately jumped in a car for the two-minute drive to the park to try and find the man but he had disappeared."

Det Con Ian Cherrington from East Surrey CID said: "This was an upsetting incident for the woman who witnessed it.

"I would appeal to anyone with information to contact Surrey Police urgently.

"Fortunately it is believed that no children witnessed the indecent act, but it is concerning that it took place near a play area."

Police are also looking into a second, unconnected offence following allegations of a possible attempted abduction in the Warlingham area on the same day.

A 29-year-old shop assistant was walking home along Westhall Road at about 8.20pm on April 30 when a navy-coloured, five-door car pulled up opposite.

The two men in the car twice called her to come over to the vehicle.

She declined and asked if they wanted directions.

When another vehicle pulled up nearby, one of the two men in the car made an obscene gesture at her and it sped off.

Her concerned father said: "If they were trying to lure her in, it might have been an attempted robbery – or worse.

"She was really shaken afterwards at the thought they may have been trying to drag her into their car."

Back in November last year, two Caterham woman told how a man had tried to open their car doors in separate incidents, one in Westway and the other in Coulsdon Road.

Surrey Police's advice is that motorists should lock their car when inside it, should never give a lift to strangers, and should keep valuables out of sight.

People should also check the interior of their car – particularly the back seat – on returning to their vehicle.

A man in his 30s from Caterham has been arrested and questioned about an indecent exposure on April 30.

He was released on police bail until May 22 while the investigation continues.

Anyone with information on either offence should call police on 101.
