PUPILS filled a national monument with song when they performed at St Paul's Cathedral.
Reigate Grammar School's chamber choir, Polyphony, performed a lunchtime recital to an audience which included their parents and visitors to the cathedral at the end of last month.
It was their second time singing at the cathedral and follows other previous performances at Southwark and Chichester cathedrals and at the Basilica in Rome.
The 16 boys and girls who make up the choir gave a 45-minute recital which included Stravinsky's Ave Maria, after the school approached the cathedral, asking to perform there.
Simon Rushby, the director of music at the school, said: "I was incredibly proud of the professional performance each of the students gave. To perform at St Paul's Cathedral is such a highlight, not only because of the prestige of the venue but also, as musicians, the acoustics of the building are stunning.
"The occasion was so special for all of us and certainly not one that we'll forget in a hurry."
Polyphony sings mainly sacred choral music, often unaccompanied, and gives concerts in churches and cathedrals across the South East.
Polyphony includes sopranos Rachel Dungate, Isabel Elsey, Miranda Harding, Katie Wood, Wakana Yasuda; altos Elanor Bond, Karolina Csathy, Joanna Howard, Elinor Morris, and Katy Welsh; tenors Jack Kelly, Ruairidh Morgan and Rhys Roberts and basses Hugh Blayney, Kai Everington and Richard Hare.
