POTHOLES have left one woman facing thousands of pounds in medical bills.

Ase Greenacre, 46, lost two teeth and suffered serious facial injuries, including bruising and cuts to the nose and chin, when she came off her bike after hitting a pothole in Pendleton Road, Woodhatch, last Saturday (April 13).

While cycling along the busy through-road from Reigate to Redhill, she hit two successive holes and was flung from her bike, striking her head on the road.

The injuries have left her facing a bill of about £3,000 to repair her teeth.

"There was a small hole and there's also another hole next to a manhole and they haven't been properly repaired," she told the Mirror. "I hit the smaller hole, lost my balance and then hit the manhole cover.

"Witnesses told me it was like watching it happen in slow motion.

"Before I knew it I was off the bike and down on the ground."

Cyclists have complained about the state of the county's roads for a long time, claiming the potholes force them to cycle towards the centre of the road or risk falling when they ride into them.

"It is ridiculous," the Belmont Road, Reigate, resident said.

"I go cycling around here fairly often and even if you are only going a few miles, you are dodging potholes all the way.

"It's a nightmare."
