THE tables were turned at St Martin's School in Dorking last week when a pupil and the head teacher swapped places for the day.
Jane Gorecka was forced to wear a school uniform and take part in classes all day last Thursday while Year 3 pupil Daisy Sharp took charge of assembly and went on an inspection tour of the school.
Daisy won the right to rule the roost for a day after winning a school raffle, where tickets were sold with the winner getting to trade places with Mrs Gorecka.
The head teacher said: "For my part I took part in a German lesson with Daisy's class.
"Speaking German is not a strength of mine so I needed to work really hard to keep up with the class, I think.
"They are really growing in confidence with their German speaking.
"I was told that, if I sat next to Michael Cleaver, he would help me."
The original idea for the swap came from Year 4 pupil Lucas Player, and was organised by the school council, led by Jan Roberts and Karen Ford.
The raffle and selling of St Martin's key rings, as well as a cake sale, raised £506, which will be used to purchase a table tennis table for the children to use during their break times.
Mrs Gorecka arrived in the morning in school uniform, while Daisy lead an assembly and presented certificates to reward children who have been working hard to be "the best they can be".
Later that day, Daisy completed an inspection tour of the school accompanied by Linda Lennon, who is on the governing body at St Martin's, checking on all the lessons that were being given.
Daisy then completed a uniform check and paid specific attention to the quality of the work in her brother's books.
Speaking after the day, Daisy said: "I enjoyed doing the assembly most.
"It was fun giving certificates out to children who have been working very hard."
