Hospitals in the Epsom, Sutton and St Helier have been shown to be the best in the country for ensuring that patients don't stay in hospital for longer than necessary.
The highly influential Dr Foster Hospital Guide shows that the trust came top of the national report that compares hospitals across England and Wales and evaluates the quality of service that they are giving to their patients.
The report shows that just 4% of patients stayed in for longer than would be expected, compared to the average of 11%.
The report also shows that the trusts hospitals are amongst the safest in South-West London and Surrey.
The hospital standard mortality rate (HSMR) indicates whether the death rate at a hospital is higher or lower than would be expected.
Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals have a HSMR of 92, which is 8% lower than the expected death rate.
The trusts chief executive Matthew Hopkins said '"We are delighted to see that we have performed so well in ensuring that our patients do not stay in hospital for longer than they need to. Whilst we would never discharge a patient before it was clinically right to do so, we know patients would rather be at home than in hospital'.
"Reducing delays in the time it takes to discharge patients has many benefits, from preventing them from picking up infections from other patients through to avoiding pressure sores. It also helps us to save money, which is reinvested into treating other patients'.
Being one of the safest trusts in the area also pleased Mr Hopkins.
"We are also very pleased to see that, once again, mortality rates at our hospitals are low, and it just goes to show that our patients are in very safe hands with us'.
