GRAEME SMITH will captain Surrey for the first time tomorrow (Wednesday) when they take on Somerset at the Kia Oval.
A 13-man squad has been announced for Surrey's first LV= County Championship Division One fixture of the 2013 season, with the South African skipper in line to make his Surrey bow with fellow new signings Gary Keedy and Vikram Solanki.
Chris Tremlett, Stuart Meaker and Jade Dernbach are also included within the squad, while Zander de Bruyn goes straight into the 13 having returned from a winter in South Africa.
However, Surrey are expecting a tough test against a Somerset side smarting from a 48 run defeat against Durham last week.
Surrey's team director, Chris Adams, said: "Preparation for the season has gone very well and we are all excited to be playing our first game at the Kia Oval on Wednesday against what we know will be tough opposition.
"Selection has been very difficult for all the right reasons as everyone is fit and available and I have had to leave out some very good players.
"The final XI will depend on the conditions we encounted on Wednesday morning but we have all bases covered and the balance between bat and ball is strong."
