A VIDEO showing a child's-eye view of speeding traffic has been made by her father in a bid to help reduce the speed limit on a busy road.

Ian Saville posted the film on YouTube to encourage Surrey County Council to reduce the speed limit on Pixham Lane, Dorking to 20mph.

The video shows his daughter Matilda inside their house eating her breakfast, before making the short journey to their gate, which opens directly onto the road.

The camera is then held at her eye-level and shows cars driving past through the bars of the gate.

"It's ridiculous how people have no common sense or regard for people living down here," said Mr Saville.

"I regularly see people doing 40 to 45 miles per hour. If the lights are green they just bomb it round the blind corner and I also see people go through a red light all the time."

He added: "I dare someone from Surrey County Council to come here and see exactly what it's like in busy periods. As far as I know they haven't even sent someone to do that."

Mr Saville believes the most dangerous section of the road is between the railway bridge and the A25, where residents on the east side of the lane have no pavement and must exit their houses directly onto a blind corner.

He continued: "I want people to change their mindset.

"At the moment people seem to see it as a road they can just race down.

"It's not going to slow anyone's day down much if they just come down from 30 to 20.

"I know people have got into bad habits but it just seems crazy."

Joy Ridley, a Surrey County Council spokeswoman, said: "The safety of our residents and other road-users is a priority for us.

"While there has been a campaign for a 20mph limit in Pixham Lane for some time, accident statistics from the beginning of 2009 to the end of October 2012 (the most recent information available) show just one collision involving slight injury.

"Although any collision is one too many, this level of casualties is comparatively low, and doesn't justify resources being prioritised for a reduction in the speed limit at this time."
