Volunteers from Epsom and Ewell have been celebrated at an awards night for the impact they have on the local community.

The Epsom and Ewell volunteer awards were held at Epsom Town Hall by Epsom and Ewell Borough Council and Voluntary Action Mid Surrey.

31 winners attended the event with their guests. Nominations came from organisations throughout the Borough, such as Epsom Playhouse and Age Concern.

A wide range of volunteering responsibilities were celebrated at the event, from working with young people to looking after the elderly.

Mayor of Epsom & Ewell, Councillor Christine Long who presented the awards said, "Volunteers are very special people who give freely of their time.  It was a great privilege for me to be able to mark their achievements and to thank them on behalf of the Borough for all the work they do for us."

Each volunteer was presented with a 'Certificate of Thanks' by the Mayor, marking their outstanding and selfless achievements. The ceremony also featured the reading of genuinely moving, heartfelt and uplifting stories of each volunteer's remarkable contribution.

Julia Gallagher the Volunteering Development Manager for Voluntary Action Mid Surrey who administrated the awards explained, "This annual event is a way for us to recognise and thank those volunteers who give up their own time to help and support many local charities and community groups"

"Without their invaluable help many services to both individuals and to the community of Epsom & Ewell would not happen".
