REIGATE residents are urged to be vigilant after a number of homes in the same road where burgled in the space of half an hour.

Surrey Police is investigating a number of offences including three burglaries and an attempted burglary in Doods Road and a burglary in Carlton Road.

The incidents happened between 6.20 and 6.50pm yesterday (Feb 19) with offenders making off with a variety of items including a Mercedes, a Mini, a television, jewellery and cash.

Officers believe they are linked to recent break-ins in Redhill, Banstead and Horley.

Patrols have been stepped up in the areas.

Reigate and Banstead Neighbourhood Inspector Angie Austin said: "Being the victim of a burglary can be incredibly distressing and is an offence we take extremely seriously.

"I would like to reassure the public we are doing all we can to bring the offenders to justice.

"We have increased the number of patrols and resources we have to investigate these crimes and we have a number of enquiries underway as a result of some recent arrests for burglary related offences.

"We are also visiting residents to offer crime prevention advice. The message we need to make clear is that if you see anything suspicious call us immediately. The quicker we know of a crime, the quicker we can act."

The recent related arrests occurred on Tuesday, February 17 in How Lane, Coulsdon, when officers on proactive burglary patrol in the area stopped a vehicle which contained a quantity of cash and a variety of tools.

Two men - 30 years old and 27 years old were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and are on bail until April 16 while investigations continue.

Inspector Austin added: "There are a number of simple steps you can take to protect yourself and your property – always check that your windows and doors are closed and locked, fit an alarm or use security lights.

"If you keep jewellery in your home take photographs of it, and I would strongly advise you to register valuable property http://www.imobilise.com/ or keep an inventory or description of things so if it is stolen we can help reunite them with you."

If anyone has any information or saw anything suspicious relating to the offences they should contact Surrey Police on 101, or report it online at http://www.surrey.police.uk/ quoting Operation Trabzon.

Alternatively you can report it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
