IT is Pancake Day and the age-old question is surfacing...what topping to use?
Lemon and sugar is traditional. Nutella is very popular. But here are a few you might not have thought of...
- 1. Bacon and Eggs
The staple of the English breakfast actually works well as a savoury topping. Or add maple syrup for the American way.
- 2. Oreos and ice cream
You love Oreos, you love ice cream, you love pancakes. Why wouldn't you put them together?
- 3. Vegetables
Since Pancake Day falls before Lent, many see it as a time for gorging on treats, but the veggie pancake option is a healthy winner.
- 4. Millionaire pancakes
Quite how this is not a Pancake Day staple is a mystery. It is so easy, crumble the shortbread, drizzle the caramel and chocolate and bingo!
- 5. Strawberry and balsamic vinegar
When we saw this in a salad we thought the world had gone mad too. Then we ate it. The sweet berries and bitter vinegar are a perfect compliment.
- 6. Pizza
The trip from pizza base to pancake is not a huge jump, so it is not a surprise to find that tomato, cheese and pepperoni wrapped in a pancake is a delight.
- 7. Pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg
A taste of autumn brought into the spring...thought the pumpkin may be hard to come by!
- 8. Marmalade and sausages
Ok, so this one is a bit out of left-field, but my former housemate swore by this mix of sweet and savoury. Go on, give it a go.
