REDHILL have been knocked off top spot in the Sussex County League Division One after a 4-0 defeat at promotion rivals Peacehaven & Telscombe this afternoon (Saturday).
The Reds travelled south looking to maintain their unbeaten record in 2013, but they came unstuck against a side also pushing for promotion to the Ryman Leagues.
It started badly for Mike Maher's men, with goals from Wes Tate and Joe Dryer opening up a 2-0 lead for Peacehaven inside 14 minutes.
Tate added a third for Peacehaven just before the break, before completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute to complete the misery for the visitors.
The fixture was one of only two games in the division to go ahead, with Rye United being held 3-3 at home by Selsey in the other match to beat the weather.
Redhill's defeat saw them slip to second in the division, with Peacehaven moving above the Reds on goal difference, and still with two games in hand.
Redhill will now be looking to bounce back on Tuesday night when they are due to travel to Chichester City.
