Redhill boss calls for more clinical finishing against Whyteleafe

REDHILL manager Mike Maher was left to lament missed chances as his side lost to Ramsgate in a bottom of the table clash on Tuesday night. After a disjointed first half display, the Lobsters found themselves 2-0 down at the break but found a way back into the game thanks to a Reece Hall strike on 57 minutes. However, despite throwing the kitchen sink at their visitors for the remainder of the Ryman League fixture, Redhill could not find a vital equaliser and Ramsgate piled on the misery by scoring on the break deep into added time. And Lobsters boss Maher believes they missed the clinical finishing of striker Connor French. "We weren't good enough in the first half, I think we lacked spark," Maher said. "But we changed the shape at half-time and I thought there was only one team that was going to score in that second half. We just couldn't hit the back of the sack. "We missed Connor French badly, I'm not going to make any excuses. He is an excellent centre-forward at this level and we missed his hold-up play badly, especially in the first half. We were all over them in the second half. The third goal I can take because we were pushing to get the equaliser and we had to commit people forward." The Redhill squad were visibly deflated by the defeat, that saw them drop to the bottom of Division One South, but Maher wants them to pick themselves up for this weekend's game against Whyteleafe. "It's devastating but we will pick ourselves up and go again on Saturday," he said. "We have games in hand and that's what is going to get us off the bottom spot. There is a good team in that dressing room, but against Ramsgate we just didn't put the ball in the back of the net. "We missed countless one-on-ones, there were so many chances we didn't put away, and we have to sort that out by the weekend."
