A SEVERE weather warning has been issued for this afternoon and tomorrow as snow spreads south.
The Met Office has said icy conditions and heavy snow are increasingly likely to hit Surrey in the next 24 hours as it upgrades its weather warning to amber - the second most severe level.
The icy blast is expected to hit from later this afternoon, as showers fall as sleet, snow and hail.
This may settle in places, especially on high ground.
Snow may affect Surrey tomorrow morning, but a persistent spell of rain is forecast for Friday afternoon.
Most areas are unlikely to see large amounts of snow but icy stretches are likely to form on untreated surfaces.
Drivers are urged to take care on the roads and expect travel disruption.
The Met Office's amber alert also warns the freezing conditions could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services.
