A PAIR of East Surrey campaign groups have joined forces to speak with one voice.
The Reigate and Redhill Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) and Stop the War Coalition groups have united as the newly-formed Reigate and Redhill Peace Group.
Members say the coalition will allow them to focus on their specific interests while working more closely on shared concerns.
The new united front will take to the streets for the first time on Saturday for the Wrap Up Trident demonstration at the Ministry of Defence. Members will join protestors urging MPs not to renew the expensive Trident nuclear weapons system.
"This indiscriminate mass-killing system is an expensive white elephant that this country simply cannot afford without further drastic cuts to the NHS, education, housing, transport and other public services," said David Hilder of the Peace Group.
"Our MP, Crispin Blunt, backs us on this issue despite being a lone voice in the Conservative Party. He has signed an early day motion protesting against Trident replacement, saying there are 'greater spending priorities'."
Members will travel on the 10.48am train from Redhill to London Victoria, e-mail: reigateandredhillcnd@hotmail.co.uk for more details.
