STUDENTS at a Banstead school entertained fellow pupils with an African drum demonstration.
Year 6 students at Banstead Community Junior School, in The Horseshoe, showed what they had learned at the World Music Workshops event.
To complement their study of Madagascar in literacy and geography, 90 youngsters discovered rhythm and blended the sounds from different African instruments including snare, djembe, marimba and bass drums.
Year 6 pupil Brianna Harrison said. "It was really fun because we learnt something new and everybody had an instrument to play in the performance. Everybody was important in the show."
Jacqui Burke, the school's music teacher, said: "I am very proud of the enthusiasm from all of the children in Year 6.
"By studying African music they have developed an appreciation for the culture and traditions included in the songs and dances of the region."
