A FAMILY who were told they could face being locked in their house for 24 hours were freed yesterday afternoon.
The Neal family, of Observatory Walk, Redhill, called for help from the Guinness Partnership, which manages their home, yesterday afternoon. Peter Neal discovered the bottom lock on his door had broken shortly after his daughter went to work leaving himself, his wife and his other daughter stranded.
The family live in a terraced house which backs onto the railway line and Mrs Neal and her daughter could not climb through the window.
Initially the Guinness Partnership said it could be up to 24 hours before a workman could be dispatched to help, but a spokesman for the firm said they would endeavour to be there faster.
In the end the family was freed yesterday afternoon - hours after being trapped - and the lock was fixed. A Guinness Trust spokesman said a workman will also visit to install a new lock.
