THE Government's transport chief has agreed to meet Reigate MP Crispin Blunt to discuss disruption caused to East Surrey commuters.
Mr Blunt raised concerns over how commuters in Reigate, Redhill, Merstham and Earlswood are being affected by the ongoing work at London Bridge, which has led to a number of services being either cancelled or diverted to London Victoria for the foreseeable future.
He also questioned why rail users were not getting a reduced cost to match the reduced service.
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin agreed to meet Mr Blunt but warned work must be done to improve the station.
Speaking in the Commons, Mr McLoughlin said: "London Bridge is at moment going through one of the biggest transformations it, well any station, is likely to go through.
"It has some 220,000 daily commuters and I say to my honourable friend 'you can't do the kind of work which is going to take place at London Bridge without causing some disruption", and those of us who were using St Pancras Station at the time when that was disrupted, for many years, will know that, at the end of the day, we have a far better station.
"But I accept the in-between period and I am more than happy, along with my honourable friend, to meet with my honourable friend to talk this matter through because it is going to go on, as he says, for three years."
