Several sports clubs were hit by a series of arson attacks.

Churchfields Bowls Club in Reigate, Horley Lawn Tennis Club and Old Reigatian RFC's clubhouse fell victim to serious blazes.

David Forsyth, chairman of Old Reigatian executive committee, said: "Absolutely nothing is going to stand in our way, least of all an arsonist, and the message is the show goes on, we will rebuild."

The annual Oxted Pram Race ensured a bumper handout of nearly £5,000 to worthy causes around the town.

Twenty-two teams, dressed as everything from overgrown schoolgirls to sailors, took part in the popular annual event.

Braving water bombs from enthusiastic passers-by, entrants even included a Uskip team, with a "German" in lederhosen and a teammate in a Nigel Farage mask.

Teams braved water bombs and shots from water pistols to complete a half-mile course in various contraptions.

The naked visitor interrupted an adjoining cricket match at Master Park, before vaulting the wicket and somersaulting over a wicker fence.

An estimated 10,000 visitors converged on the three-day event, sampling 125 varieties of real ale as well as being entertained by four cricket matches and eight live bands.

East Surrey Hospital was labelled one of the top three in the country.

It received the top "good" rating from the Care Quality Commission.

Staff were commended for being "caring and compassionate", with A&E and maternity services particularly praised.

The hospital's chief executive Michael Wilson said: "I'm absolutely delighted.

"We have made some fantastic improvements in areas such as clinical and patient experience."

Larger-than-life actor Brian Blessed presented the prizes at Caterham School's Speech Day.

Brian – instantly recognisable with his booming voice and bushy beard – gave a speech to an audience of almost 2,000 pupils, parents and teachers.

Having appeared in everything from Shakespeare to Flash Gordon, he has also climbed Mount Everest three times and is the oldest man to have trekked to the North Magnetic Pole on foot.

This was the dramatic moment when a buggy carrying a baby was caught on CCTV rolling onto a railway line.

The pushchair rolled down a slope at Whyteleafe station, despite a mother's frantic efforts to stop it. It narrowly missed the live rail.

With the help of other passengers, she managed to rescue her baby, just before a train pulled in to the station.

The drama broke out on the London-bound platform, according to a report from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch.

Factory worker Paul Lugton scooped an £80,000 win on a National Lottery Bullseye scratchcard.

Mr Lugton, from Oxted, said: "I had to give the scratchcard to the shopkeeper to check on his terminal.

"When he said, 'you've won big' I was absolutely speechless.

"Sadly my luck didn't hold for my team Liverpool – they lost 3-1 to Manchester City."

A Reigate bride and groom became celebrities for the day when they "stood in" for George Clooney.

When rumours spread the Hollywood superstar was going to get married in London, a press pack descended on Chelsea Old Town Hall.

Newly-weds Rebecca Dunsmore and Martin English were beseiged by photographers when they emerged from the building.

Disabled Rio Worby from Horley received her dream birthday – a phone call from Mickey Mouse.

The 16-year-old, who has autism and other conditions, received the surprise call on her big day.
