FIREFIGHTERS in Surrey spent most of yesterday afternoon battling a large fire which completely destroyed a mobile home in Charlwood.
It started at around 1pm, when the vehicle was parked in the garden of a property in Russ Cottages, off Russ Hill. The fire is believed to have been caused by a faulty heater inside the home.
A crew member from Horley station told the Mirror that two large jets, one hose reel and breathing apparatus had been used to control the fire and retrieve gas cylinders from inside it.
He added: "It was difficult to get close because of the gas cylinders and obviously there was a risk of explosion."
The fire spread to a nearby concrete outbuilding in the garden, but no one was hurt in the incident, as the home's owners were out when the blaze started. Russ Hill was closed between Millfields Crescent and Rectory Lane until around 5.30pm.
Engines from Leatherhead and Crawley also attended.
