STEVE BAKER was pleased it was Chipstead's opposition who failed to hang onto a lead for once, as the east Surrey side came from behind to beat Hastings United on Saturday.
Hastings took the lead through Taser Hassan just before half-time before defender Steve Betancourt equalised with a shot from distance and then the Chips got a 70th minute winner, although the goal-scorer remains a High Road mystery.
"It went down as Will Turl's goal but I was probably as close to it as he was. He's certainly not getting a goal bonus for that!" Baker laughed. "Will took a shot and then our other striker Derek Tieku has run in with a couple of defenders and somehow the ball has ended up in the back of the net.
"We were talking about it in the changing rooms after the game and at least three people are claiming in. I suppose it doesn't matter who scored it, just that it went in."
However, the highlight of the game was a surprise goal for Betancourt, who was last seen on the goal sheet after a spectacular own goal at Guernsey.
"Steve scored from 25 yards. It was an excellent goal actually," the Chips boss said. "I know he has a decent strike on him but you don't get to see it when he plays as a centre-half. He filled in at left back for us on Saturday and it allowed him to get forward a bit more.
"I think the own goal at Guernsey was still the more technically difficult goal to score, but Saturday's was good. A first time hit from distance."
