Explosives may have been in an attempted bank raid in Warlingham this morning.
Three man in balaclavas were seen running from the scene of the incident, at the NatWest bank on Warlingham Green, at around 2.45am.
A police spokesman said: "An implement was used to detonate the machine in an attempt to steal the cash contents.
"Two vehicles, a van and a high-performance sports car, were seen in the vicinity at the time.
"Scenes of Crime Officers attended the scene, and it is believed that no money was stolen."
Police are linking it with a similar incident four miles away in Coulsdon which happened a few hours later.
