GALES and heavy rain battered Surrey last night but much of the region remained unscathed.
The only emergency was a flagpole at a building site near Caterham Railway Station coming loose and hanging precariously. Firefighters from Godstone swiftly attended the scene at 10pm to take it down before it caused any damage.
Despite the strong winds through the night, residents woke up to calmer weather this morning.
The Met Office has forecast a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain.
But East Surrey can expect bursts of sunshine later on in the afternoon.
Today's temperature will hit a maximum of 10C.
