Redhill businessman hits out at police after school minibuses for disabled children are vandalised for third time

A REDHILL businessman has criticised police for telling him to gather his own forensic evidence after vandals "targeted" his car firm.

In the third attack in just six months, yobs stole tyres and used a hammer to smash the windscreen of a minibus used to transport disabled children to school.

The offenders struck overnight on Monday last week in St Anne's Drive, where the vehicle was parked.

Back in May, three of the 30-strong fleet were coated in gloss paint and had their tyres slashed.

And during the summer holidays four cars were keyed, left on bricks and had wing mirrors shattered.

Ali Pervaiz, owner of Courtesy Cars based in Holmethrope Avenue, believes his ten-year-old firm is being targeted.

He told the Mirror: "We had two other company vehicles parked in the same area but neither of them had our vehicle branding on them, just this one.

"There are usually 30 to 40 vehicles parked in this area of people who work on the estate or workshop vehicles.

"We're clearly being targeted. We've got no idea what's been going on."

But the police have failed to investigate, he claimed, adding: "I've called them several times, but was put on hold for 20 minutes so I just gave up. Last time when it was more serious they did absolutely nothing.

"They asked me if I was able to gather any forensic evidence for them. They wanted me to find any paint tins that I think might have fingerprints on them. What the hell are police for?

"They made it adequately clear first time they aren't following up because it's not a matter of life or death.

"So nothing will come from reporting it."

Despite having a car out of action this week, the service, contracted by Surrey County Council, has not let down the 150 youngsters who rely on the firm's vehicles to reach schools across the area.

However the trio of attacks has cost the firm up to £4,000 in car repairs.
