STAFF and pupils at a Leatherhead primary school have pledged to make it even better, despite a glowing Ofsted report.

Leatherhead Trinity School and Children's Centre, in Woodvill Road, was rated 'good' in all areas following a visit by the Government's education watchdog at the end of January.

Head teacher Alison Walsh said she was "thrilled" with the outcome, particularly as inspection guidelines have recently been toughened up.

"What would have been 'good' a few years ago is no longer good," she said. "

"There were only two things highlighted for us to become outstanding. We are ambitious and we now want to go on and crack 'outstanding'."

Over a "very intense couple of days", officials monitored teaching in 21 lesson observations, talked to children and staff and examined data to form a detailed picture of all aspects of the school's operations.

Areas picked out for particular praise included Trinity's "safe and welcoming" environment, levels of responsibility afforded to older pupils and the support and monitoring carried out among teachers.

Raising the overall assessment of "satisfactory" found at an inspection in early 2012, the report concluded: "The head teacher, senior staff and governors have worked effectively to improve the school since the previous inspection and their efforts are successful."

Mrs Walsh, who has been head at Trinity for six years, said the success was predominantly due to her "strong, committed team of high-quality staff".

"It's not been an overnight thing," she said. "There's been an improving picture here over quite a number of years.

"People who have worked here, and parents whose children have been here, will tell you that. People can see the quality of the education here.

"The staff are a very a committed and determined lot, and they are very ambitious for the school to be even better still."

Areas identified as needing improvement included the recording of data on pupils' progress, and maths teaching.

Mrs Walsh said: "The Ofsted team didn't see any maths teaching that was less than good, but it was something I had already highlighted as something I felt we needed to work on as a school.

"But we're going to go for it. We're going to keep working here."
