FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round
Whyteleafe 1 Leatherhead 4
Whyteleafe started the game well and dominated the first half hour against their Premier Division opponents, but some fine goalkeeping from Louis Wells kept the Tanners in the game.
Eventually the visitors got on top and ended with a comfortable victory, highlighted by three fantastic strikes on goal.
Former Leatherhead striker Greg Andrews went close for Leafe in the sixth minute, a curling 30 yard free kick forcing a good save from Wells. After 13 minutes Roscoe DSane intercepted a clearance and his shot was deflected for a corner by Richard Avery. The resultant corner saw Wells in action again, saving a header from Jensen Grant.
Sol Patterson-Bohner came to Leafe's rescue at the other end in the 15th minute, clearing off the line from a Kevin Terry shot.
Wells made another fine save from Andrews in the 20th minute when Bentley Graham found him in the box following a good run down the right where he beat two defenders and found him in a good position in the box.
Two further fine saves followed, firstly in the 29th minute when DSane laid the ball off to Alex Penfold. His 25 yard effort took a deflection but was well saved by Wells, then another save from Andrews.
Andrews then beat a defender on the left and sent over a superb cross that was just out of reach of DSane at the far post, only needing any sort of touch to turn it into the net.
The visitors scored against the run of play in the 38th minute. Alex Penfold's headed clearance from a corner only went as far as Karagiannis on the edge of the box and his fine strike fizzed into the back of the net.
Sam Clayton forced another good save from Wells in the 42nd minute from the edge of the box and in the 45th minute Andrews was just off target with a 25 yard free kick.
The second half was more even. Leafe had a good chance in the 49th minute when awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, but Andrews was unable to get his shot past the wall which appeared to be far too close to the kick.
Ryan Fowler was putting in some good runs down the left and in the 61st minute was unlucky to see an effort deflected just wide for a corner.
Leafe got a deserved equaliser in the 63rdminute when Sam Clayton picked out Andrews in the box with a pinpoint cross from the right and his powerful header hit the back of the net.
Leatherhead then took control of the game and another superb strike from Karagiannis in the 69th minute, struck equally as well as his first, left Sheikh Ceesay no chance and flew into the top corner of the net.
Keirnan Hughes-Mason missed an open goal in the 73rd minute but the visitors only had to wait until the 77th minute when Mark Nwokeji netted from close range. The visitors were now in control of the game and another great strike, this time from Hughes-Mason, clinched the game in the 86th minute.
