NIGHT buses will operate in Guildford in the early hours of Thursday and Saturday mornings to give students a direct means of getting home.
The buses will follow the route of Arriva's Service 27 that links the town centre with Surrey University's campus, Surrey Sports Park, Manor Park, Royal Surrey County Hospital, Park Barn, Rydes Hill and Queen Elizabeth Park.
Two buses will leave from Guildford Bus Station at 1.04am and 2.04 am on Thursdays and Saturdays, with an extra journey at 3.04am on Saturday mornings.
The buses are being provided with funding from the university but can be used by anyone and there is a special £2 single fare for each journey, available from the driver.
People with Arriva Day, Weekly, Four-weekly and Annual tickets covering the Guildford area can use their tickets on the late-night buses at no extra cost and University Travelcard holders can also travel free.
Arriva's regional publicity manager, Richard Lewis, said: "We are delighted to be adding extra value to our network of routes in Guildford that provide a valuable service to the large student population.
"We have been working closely with the University of Surrey for many years and this is the latest in a series of initiatives that we have introduced as we jointly develop the network.
"Although being run essentially as a facility for the university's students, the new late-night buses are available to anyone wanting to use them and we hope that they will prove popular and will become an established part of the local bus network into the future."
