SIX PEOPLE were rescued from a lift in Redhill's town centre earlier today.

Firefighters were called to the lift, which takes people to and from the Harlequin Theatre and Redhill Library, after it broke down.

Three women, one man, a three-year-old boy and a one-year-old girl were stuck inside for several hours from around 10am.

Firefighters waited with the trapped people until a lift engineer was able to attend.

A crew member from Reigate told the Mirror: "We managed to find a little hole and pass some sweeties down to the kids."

The lift engineer arrived at around midday and fixed the fault. There were no injuries.
