A PRIMARY school has built a new pirate ship play area.

St Stephen's C of E Primary School in Hunters Chase, South Godstone, completed the new piece of playground equipment at the end of last term.

The Big Lottery Fund, which gives out millions of pounds from the National Lottery to good causes, agreed to donate £10,000 for the pirate ship, a storyteller's chair and five mushroom seats along with a contribution towards some outdoor musical instruments.

Deputy head teacher Ann Alden said: "The equipment is used by all of the children and has helped to further develop their sensory and creative play.

"The school is delighted to have secured this funding and [is] very grateful to the Big Lottery Fund. Dressing up and role play has become a central part of playtimes."
