MAX CHILTON was forced to retire just ten laps into today's Russian Grand Prix after suspension problems with his Marussia.
The Reigate driver had already pitted once before the retirement, but a second attempt could not fix the problem.
It's only the third Formula 1 race Chilton has failed to complete, and comes at the end of a very difficult week for the young driver and Marussia, with team-mate Jules Bianchi still in hospital after a crash in last Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix left the Frenchman with severe head injuries.
And Chilton, who was Marussia's sole driver for the race in Russia, admits it was disappointing not to have completed the grand prix.
"We just had a slight issue coming in to turn one, something wasn't quite right but I managed to get it back and the engineers are looking at it now," Chilton said.
"It's been a very, very difficult week for the team and everyone in the F1 family. It was hard on the grid and all the drivers were struggling but hopefully they are putting on a good show for Jules - it's just a shame we couldn't complete the race for him."
