BUILDING work to bring a new Sainsbury's, hotel and gym to Redhill town centre will begin at the end of this month.
The first phase of the regeneration of Warwick Quadrant will start in late October with the demolition of Lombard House.
But knocking down the offices, expected to take five months, could cause yet more disruption in the town centre which is already gridlocked due to the two-way system road works.
Sainsbury's insist contractors RG Group will keep disruption to a minimum. Work will take place Monday to Saturday between 8am and 6pm.
The building will be covered in a protective sheet and the ground dampened to prevent dust spreading and noise monitoring equipment will also be used on-site, while all vehicle movements associated with the works will be carefully controlled.
Alan Ayres, Sainsbury's project manager, said: "It will be extremely exciting to see work start on this redevelopment which, once finished, will provide fantastic new facilities for the town centre."
Councillor Natalie Bramhall, regeneration portfolio holder at Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, added: "We're pleased work is soon to get underway on this important site, which is key in delivering our regeneration ambitions to create a thriving and prosperous town centre."
Companies have now moved out of Lombard House and surveys are currently being carried out on the site.
Main construction work is due to begin in spring next year, and the development should be completed by summer 2016.
Once complete, the regenerated Warwick Quadrant will provide a replacement Sainsbury's supermarket and Travelodge hotel, with improvements to the entrance to the Harlequin Theatre and library.
There will be new seating and landscaping on London Road and improved town centre car parking. Several hundred new jobs will be created.
