HELP Horley shine this Christmas.
That's the plea from traders who have launched a £10,000 festival fundraising appeal to light up the town.
Butcher Chris White, of Horley Association of Traders (Hats) which has initiated the appeal, said: "Please help us to raise our target. It may seem a long way off but the Christmas light switch-on is just round the corner on Saturday, November 29, so we need everyone's help."
As well as funding new lights to brighten the town in November and December, money raised will also go towards maintaining the existing supply and replacing unsuitable electrical sockets which caused problems last year.
Traders have created a marker to help keep track of donations to this year's Christmas lights fund.
At the annual appeal launch last week, Hats members unveiled the marker in the High Street, outside Chris White Butchers.
It will remain there until November 29 when the lights are switched on, and slowly tally up donations as they come in.
The group is determined to top the £8,000 raised last year and, to help attract sponsors, Hats has drawn up a range of options for businesses
For example, if firms agree to pledge £2,000 they will receive a large thank-you banner as well as being given the option to turn on the lights.
While for the more modest enterprises willing to pledge £50, traders are offering lamppost sign advertising and publicity in all Hats material.
The group is also appealing for donations from individuals. For more information e-mail horleyassociationoftraders@out look.com or call 01293 202280.
