Hythe Town hold South Park to draw thanks to late equaliser

Ryman League Division One South South Park 2 Hythe Town 2 South Park's hopes of a fourth straight win were dashed as they conceded a last minute equaliser to Hythe Town. Park went on the offensive from the first whistle and won three corners the second of which saw Joe Jackson's header well saved by Hythe keeper Eason. Ward fired over the bar after good work from Chris Smith before Burchell hit the Park post from 20 yards. Wastell pushed another shot round the post before the visitors took the lead in the 21st minute. Park gave the ball away in midfield and Hythe attacked down the left with Thompson pulling the ball back to Morrish to score form close range. Wastell rushed off his line to clear a short back pass whilst David's cross was headed behind for a Park corner. Ayling shot over the bar from distance and Jackson's lay off found David Smith wide on the right whose first time ball across goal was met by the outstretched foot of Chris Smith but flashed narrowly wide of the post. In the opening minute of the second half David Smith found Chris Smith whose lay off was just out of the reach of Jackson. Ward's left wing cross picked out Chris Smith who unusually miss kicked and the chance was gone. Higgins blocked a goal bound shot and a shot from Hythe went wide of the upright. David smith was brought down in the inside right channel. Chris Smith's driven free kick found Jackson whose towering header found the back of the net to level the scores. Two minutes later Park were in front. Chris Smith was brought down in the box and he picked himself up to calmly chip the spot kick in of the underside of the bar as the keeper dived to his right. Park scrambled a Hythe attack clear. Jackson headed a Hythe corner away as he visitors searched for an equaliser. Higgins trying to clear a dangerous cross over his own bar could only stand and watch as the ball cannoned off the ball and was scrambled clear. Wastell was quick of his line to deny the Hythe striker. However deep into added time a right wing cross was met by Yianni who guided the ball into the bottom corner earn the visitors a share of the points. South Park face Leatherhead at home on Tuesday in the 1st round of the Robert Dyas League game before travelling to fourth placed Sittingbourne on Saturday.
