MAX CHILTON'S Marussia team-mate Jules Bianchi is undergoing surgery after sustaining "a severe head injury" after crashing into a vehicle on the side of the track.
The Japanese Grand Prix was ended after Bianchi's crash, which was at same point Adrian Sutil had left the track laps before, colliding with the tractor that was used to move Sutil's car.
Bianchi was taken straight to hospital, and Formula One's head of communications and media Matteo Bonciani has confirmed his injuries are serious.
"The CT scan shows that he [Bianchi] has suffered a severe head injury and is currently undergoing surgery," Bonciani said in a statement. "Following this he will be moved to intensive care where he will be monitored."
