PLANS to build an additional 15 homes on the site of former Liquid and Envy nightclub in Redhill have been recommended for approval.

As previously reported in the Mirror, Birmingham-based Mar City purchased the Station Corner site for £2.275 million. Despite Reigate and Banstead Borough Council already approving plans for 61 flats there, the firm now wants to build a further 15 homes.

The plans were due to be discussed at the council's planning committee last night (Wednesday).

In a report, planning officer Andrew Benson recommended councillors approve the scheme subject to a number of conditions, including the construction of a shared cycle path around the site and a contribution of £91,500 towards sustainable travel measures.

The latest proposals also include a ground floor retail unit, set to be a Tesco Express, and parking for 23 cars.

Natalie Bramhall, councillor for Redhill West and portfolio holder for regeneration, told the Mirror in May she was "concerned" about 76 flats being built there, when the council had previously decided 61 was the absolute maximum.

She said: "We made it quite clear we felt that was as big as it got.

"I know the planning committee was quite firm that 61 was the limit. I'm a bit concerned about parking spaces as well, I don't think it's enough."

The new plans are for 40 two-bedroom flats and 36 one-bed flats in an eight-storey building.
