Councillors have deferred a decision on whether to demolish garages and hardstanding areas on a Bookham housing estate and replace them with 11 new affordable homes.
At their meeting on Wednesday evening (March 6), Mole Valley District Council's development control committee discussed the pros and cons of the scheme proposed for the Edenside estate.
The Mole Valley Housing Association wants to remove 105 garages - built in Beattie Close, Greathurst End and Edenside Road in 1970 - and redevelop the area by building seven houses and four bungalows plus 72 parking bays.
Committee members expressed concerns over a number of areas, including access for emergency vehicles, over-intensive development and whether the number of parking spaces would be adequate.
Councillor David Preedy said: "I am struggling with the lack of information. This is a complex application and it is not clear if the parking provided will be in the right place in the estate.
"It's very difficult to work out and I feel we are not being given the information we need to make a decision."
After a discussion lasting one hour and 20 minutes, members finally voted in favour of revisiting the issue next month after receiving additional information on parking and the current use of the garages, many of which are rented by non-estate residents.
