DIRECTOR of cricket Alec Stewart believes new signing David Balcombe will add "depth and experience" to the Surrey County Cricket Club squad. The Oval club announced the 29-year-old fast bowler has joined on a two-year deal from Hampshire, however he is familiar with Surrey having come through the academy. Stewart commented: "We are pleased to announce the signing of David Balcombe. He is a bowler who came through the Surrey system and he will add depth and experience to our squad and we welcome him back to the Kia Oval." Surrey have been busy building for next season, having announced on Friday that several members of the 2014 squad have signed new contracts. Zafar Ansari, Rory Burns, Tom Curran and Dominic Sibley have all signed three year deals which will keep them at the club until at least the end of the 2017 season. Gary Wilson, Stuart Meaker and Gareth Batty have all signed new two year deals which will keep them at Surrey until at least the end of the 2016 season. Vikram Solanki, Arun Harinath, Tim Linley and Steven Davies are all under contract until the end of the 2015 season. Stewart added: "We are delighted that these contracts have been finalised and that each player has committed their future to Surrey CCC. Ansari, Burns, Curran, Sibley and Meaker have all come through our Academy system and we now have an exciting blend of home grown talent and experience in our squad heading into the 2015 season".
