OMAR FOLKES will not settle for anything less than promotion this season, insisting Merstham will build on their Bank Holiday Monday win over local rivals Redhill.
The Moatsiders were among the pre-season promotion favourites but have suffered an inconsistent start to the campaign, winning two, drawing two and losing two from their opening six fixtures.
But tricky forward Folkes, who had a hand in two of Merstham's goals in their 4-3 win over the Lobsters, believes Hayden Bird's team have what it takes to earn a place in the Ryman League Premier Division.
"I was very pleased with the way I played but also how the team as a whole played," he said of Monday's win. "I came on at half-time but I feel like I did 90 minutes, not 45. It was hard work, it wasn't easy, but I was told to try and change the game, and I hope I did that. I won a penalty and set up [Tommy] Hutchings' goal.
"I think we will kick on from here. We have a great squad with a great spirit and a great manager. This will be starting block; we are aiming to go up. Play-offs or automatic, whatever it takes, we're going up this season."
