A TEENAGER has designed the medal for Reigate's upcoming half-marathon.
Izzy Wood, a student at Reigate Grammar School, has been crowned winner of the medal design competition for the adidas Run Reigate Half Marathon.
Now Izzy, aged 14, will see her design put into production and handed out to every runner who completes the course.
Describing her medal, Izzy said: "I wanted to capture the spirit of Reigate so I drew a background of Reigate High Street and then, to link it with the race, I drew a man running."
The half-marathon will start at 9am on Sunday, September 21, in Priory Park. More than 5,000 runners are expected to complete the 13.1-mile route.
Sports giant adidas is sponsoring the event, along with Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and The Children's Trust.
Izzy, of Reigate, was stunned to hear her design had won.
"I only took a lesson [to complete it], I really wasn't expecting to win," she said. "I'm quite happy, it's quite a big deal for me. This is the first art competition I have entered."
One of the competition's judges, Richard West, head of creative with half-marathon partner Jellyfish, praised Izzy's creation.
He said: "Having reviewed the four shortlisted medal designs, I recommended Izzy Wood's design.
"For me, the design is simple and clear. It has a really lovely composition, the lines converging to create that feeling of speed and pace.
"It also paints Reigate in a good light and does not hinge on the obvious castle.
"I have to say I'm really impressed with all the designs, they certainly communicate a Reigate feel. But Izzy's design was the winner for me."
Izzy received a digital camera and printer package from Canon for coming up with the winning medal.
