A VIEW FROM OVERSEAS: 'Leatherhead game is huge for Llamas'

DESPITE the Test match at the Rose Bowl this week and the new Premier League season being just around the corner, the most important viewing in England is definitely the cricket in the Surrey Championship Premier Division.

I say this every week but the game at Leatherhead this weekend is definitely the biggest of year. I say that seriously as it is the last 13-point game of the season before we hit the last five one-day games. Hopefully we can go into these last five games well in front and then the league is ours to lose.

We have gone clear of all but one of the teams in the competition. Wimbledon, who we thought would be favourites at the start of the year, are still lurking in second and ready to pounce on any opportunity we provide them.

Last week's win was one of the greatest run chases I've ever been a part of. At 90-6 we looked dead and buried.

Ali Raja took 25 balls to get off the mark and at one stage we were saying this would be the longest but most attractive looking ducks we have seen. Then all of a sudden he flicked a switch and hit three consecutive boundaries. Every ball came straight out of the middle and raced to the fence.

There was no looking back as even though we still required 7.5 an over for the last 22 overs there was no stopping the bodybuilder.

The muscle man from Croydon just kept plundering boundaries and then when the spinner decided to finally toss a few up he smacked a couple of slog sweeps over the Lashings' marquee.

Now, I have hit a few big bombs in my time but this was one of the biggest I've seen at Park Lane.

Even Ray the barman ran onto the field once we hit the winning runs to get around the great man after this electrifying innings.
