SOUTH Godstone's Jody Fannin, alongside factory Aston Martin driver Darren Turner, completed a successful debut weekend in the International GT Open Championship at Silverstone with a win and a second place.
The Redhill-based TF Sport run Aston Martin took pole for race one on Saturday morning and fifth place on the grid for race two in a qualifying session interrupted by a red flag and changing track conditions.
In race one, Turner took the lead from pole and built a gap which had grown to more than 40 seconds by the pit stop.
The pair had been handed an additional 15 second pit stop penalty due to it being a 'one-off' entry into the championship, so the lead was reduced after the stops but Fannin had it back up to 44 seconds when a safety car was deployed.
"Darren had done a great job and I was cruising along in the lead, just being consistent and making sure we got the car to the flag," explained Fannin. "The safety car meant I had to get the restart spot on to ensure we won the race – a fantastic result."
Fannin started fifth on the grid in the second race and was up to fourth place by the end of the first lap – this soon became third on lap two, and by lap seven he was in the lead.
With 25 minutes on the clock he was called in for the driver change and after the extended pit stop, Turner emerged in seventh place. He found his way to second but the gap to the lead Ferrari was too big to breach.
