Marussia's Chilton happy to avoid drama in Hungarian Grand Prix

AFTER a pre-race downpour it was a dramatic race as the Formula 1 came to Budapest on Sunday for the 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix. Although the showers abated by the time the cars left the garage, the track was wet with several cars coming unstuck in the slippery conditions, some big crashes and three safety car periods. However, Reigate's Max Chilton had a straightforward race, finishing in 16th, just behind team-mate Jules Bianchi. With two cars completing the race, coupled with both Caterhams being forced to retire, it was a successful outing for the Surrey man's team, Marussia. And, despite being the last man over the line, Chilton was much happier with his car's performance than following last week's race in Germany. "I got a good start to the race and I was happy with the way the car was performing and that we managed to avoid any of the difficulties the retirees encountered," Chilton said. "With [Kamui] Kobayashi and [Marcus] Ericsson out of the picture, and Jules having to make an unscheduled stop, it was good to be able to move up the field and then at the end have a good fight with Jules to the flag. "I'm pleased for the team that we have another two car finish and we've managed to hold on to our ninth place in the Constructors' Championship, which is really important. Now we all deserve a good break so we can come back in Spa and have a good second half of the season."
