POLICE are appealing for information following a car fire in Holland Close, Redhill.
It is believed the silver Volkswagen Sharan, parked near the town centre, was set alight deliberately in the early hours of Monday.
Firefighters were called to the scene at around 2.20am and spent an hour tackling the flames.
It is believed an accelerant was used to start the blaze.
Detectives from East Surrey CID are looking for witnesses who may have seen suspicious behaviour.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Sarah Jupp, said: "It is possible, due to the location of the fire that someone will have seen the offender even though the incident occurred at a quiet time of day. I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact Surrey Police with this information.
"It is likely that the offender will have returned home smelling of either accelerant or smoke so if you have your suspicions around someone you know please share these concerns with us."
Officers from the Reigate and Banstead Safer Neighbourhood Team will be visiting the area following this incident to provide reassurance patrols and make a number of enquiries in the area.
Anyone who can assist with the investigation is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference 45140056280. Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
