Surrey Championship Premier Division
Reigate Priory 186-8
Wimbledon 190-5
Wimbledon won by five wickets
WIMBLEDON narrowed the gap on league leaders Reigate Priory after securing a five wicket victory at Park Lane.
Having won the toss, the Llamas decided to bat with Tom Lister opening the batting alongside Andy Delmont in the absence of Richie Oliver.
Lister went for 14 before Chris Murtagh was caught lbw for a duck as the Llamas struggled for a meaningful partnership.
Craig Cachopa (14), Michael Burgess (1) and Henry Tye (23) came and went, before Delmont was out for a patient 52.
Luke Beaven (29no) and Will Hodson (20no) contributed well from the latter order as Priory finished well shy of 200 on 186-8.
James Bett took four wickets for the Dons (4-49).
It looked like Priory might be able to defend the low total went Wimbledon opener Neil Turk was caught by Beaven off the bowling of Neil Saker for just two, while Hodson trapped his partner James Johnston lbw for eight.
However, in at three, Ben Compton (68) put on steady partnerships with first Chris Benham (35), then Will Leith (44) and finally Gerry Penford (32no). After Hodson caught Compton off the bowling of Beaven, Penford hit the winning runs alongside Bett.
The current Premier Division champions are clearly not handing their crown over without a fight.
