Rain, that bugbear of an English summer, washed out Reigate Priory's 100 per cent winning record Saturday as the game away against Weybridge saw but one hour's play and was finally abandoned midway through the afternoon.
During that one hour's play, Reigate won the toss and put Weybridge into bat who reached 73-3 off 14 overs at the drinks break, when the rains came. Harry Cripps, the Weybridge opener was not out for a run-a-ball 42, after being dropped in the gully off Saker, the first ball he received and the second ball of the game.
Bowling from the pavilion end, Hodson was working his way through the Weybridge upper order. In seven overs he bowled Luc Durandt, Cripps's opening partner, for 13. He had South African overseas player Sarel Erwee leg before for 6. And a smart catch at second slip by Henry Tye saw Adam Hose dispatched by Hodson for 4. Hodson ended with figures of 3-27.
A 34-run partnership between Cripps and Sri Lankan player Thushara Managei was interrupted by rain during the drinks break and that proved to be the end of the game.
The abandoned result gives Reigate Priory one more point onto their total division points – now 79 points, and still 33 points ahead of second-placed Sutton. Three other games in the Premier Division also were abandoned on Saturday. The one game that had a result – albeit a draw – was Spencer versus Banstead, in a rain-reduced game of 63 overs.
Spencer gain four points for a winning draw but remain in fourth place in the division on 42 points.
